- Go to Patient Profile via Client Summary Screen or clicking on patient’s name anywhere in CalMHSA Rx screen.
- Select Pharmacy through Pharmacy search bar/favorites list.
- Select correct Prescription Benefit, if any.
- Click ‘Create New Rx’.
- Click on ‘Add medication’ to search for a medication through ‘Select Medication for Prescription’ option.
- Always select medication from the dropdown list (avoid free text as then the prescription will not be faxed & not electronically sent to Pharmacy. So, there is no way to check for drug interactions/duplication of medications).
- Review and Acknowledge alerts for drug interactions, allergies etc.
- Fill in all details in ‘Prescribe Medication’, including if there are additional directions to patient (client) or additional notes to pharmacist.
- Select option for Split Orders for more than 1 pharmacies, if applicable.
- Remember only EPCS Prescriber can prescribe Controlled substances. You will need a Passphrase and token PIN to continue prescribing controlled substances.
- Use ‘Star’ icon for a medication as favorite (to make it easy for prescribing same medication in the future).
- Send actions for a Prescription-
- Send- transmits the prescription to the pharmacy electronically (actioned by Prescribers).
- Save Pending Rx, Save and Add Rx – For queuing up orders for prescribers (g. actioned by provider agents).
- Send, Signature to Follow – For Non-controlled substances prescribed by provider agents (queuing up orders for prescriber to provide signatures).
- Send & Print – It transmits the prescription to the pharmacy electronically and prints out a watermarked (non-legal) copy of the prescription for your records.
- Sign Don’t Send – signs the medication and adds the medication to the patient’s active medication list but does not send a prescription to the pharmacy. This is useful if the patient was given a sample.
- Print don’t’ send- For printing prescription, giving the print copies to the patient for the patient to take it to pharmacy.
- When you prescribe a medication that is already existing in the patient’s prescription, then a pop-up window appears that says — Prescription/Medication reconciliation- option ‘To Keep/Stop Existing Medication’ Or ‘Add New Medication’. Select, as appropriate.
- There is a link at the top of the screen OR can be accessed from the hamburger menu on top left corner — Prescription Summary, this helps you view all prescriptions and their status.
