New Functionality: Legal Guardian

Streamline has introduced a new concept into SmartCare called “Legal Guardian.” This shows up in the Client Information screen on the Contacts tab and is a checkbox that can be selected, much like the existing Guardian checkbox; it can be automatically added as a cosigner to certain documents.

CalMHSA will be working to ensure any document that currently automatically adds the Guardian as a cosigner will also automatically add the Legal Guardian as a cosigner. This will be completed over the next week or so, as the Legal Guardian checkbox already exists and adding this configuration should not disrupt any user workflows.

The functionality was added on behalf of another Streamline customer who wanted to distinguish between the guardian/caregiver and the legal guardian — which makes sense in the context of foster youth, as the caregiver is the foster parent, but the legal guardian is generally the social worker. CalMHSA is considering changing Guardian to Guardian/Caregiver or just Caregiver to clarify.

Please let us know if you have any feedback on this potential change by emailing [email protected]. We will leave the feedback window open for three weeks and report our decision in the March 13 newsletter.

Client Search Flyout Window Links

In response to county requests to customize links in the flyout window when selecting a client from the Client Search bar, CalMHSA will be posting a Knowledge Base article on how counties can do this with custom user roles. We plan to make this change on Friday, Feb. 28. Please inform your staff of the upcoming changes.

In the meantime, we are looking to make changes to the CalMHSA user roles; see the associated spreadsheet with the planned client screens for each user role. Please remember that user roles are additive, so if a user has two or more roles, they will see all of the screens from all of the roles.

Article Correction

In last week’s EHR Bulletin, an article erroneously stated the minimum threshold associated with CPT 90791 as 16 minutes for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The correct minimum threshold is 31 minutes
